Diego Garcia-Appadoo was born in Palma de Mallorca. He received his Astrophysics Master's Degree from Cardiff University in the UK where he continued on to do his PhD on the properties of HI-selected galaxies. He then moved to Bonn for a 2 year postdoc where he worked on the APEX project. Diego joined ESO in September 2007 as an ALMA fellow in Santiago de Chile where he spends 50% of his time on science and 50% on technical duties for the commissioning and operations of the project ALMA, including regular trips to the Operations Support Facility at the ALMA site in Chajnantor in the Atacama desert. In his spare time Diego enjoys traveling, scuba diving, hiking and digital photography.
